CAHPERD Celebrates 75th Anniversary

Wednesday, January 2, 2008 (OTTAWA) - The Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) is pleased to be embarking upon its 75th year of advocating for healthy and active children.

As part of this community, CAHPERD is looking for you to contribute success stories, retro game ideas, facts or tips, stories about your PE experiences past or present, to the online forum, to advocating and to join the events we are planning for this momentous year. The theme is Celebrate our Past, Recognize the Present and Embrace the Future; your contributions are vital, please email your entries to angela@cahperd.ca.

2008 is about Celebrating our Past, Recognizing the Present and Embracing the Future. Celebrating our Past focuses on celebrating the achievements, people and places that made CAHPERD a success. Recognizing the Present looks at the progress we are making and current success stories including schools, teachers and great advocators. Finally Embracing the Future hopes to engage partners, members, government and new audiences to further advance Physical and Health Literacy for generations to come.

To provide you with a glimpse into our past the Canadian Physical Education Association (CPEA) was founded in 1933 by Dr. Arthur S. Lamb of McGill University. Over the past 75 years the name has changed to include Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (1948) and currently the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (1998).
